Heat Loss/Heat Gain calculations explained

Review for the Heat Loss / Heat Gain course

Date: February 14, 2026 Written by: Simon Wells, EcoJia From: Lake Country, British Columbia

This course was simple to follow and interactive. Our instructor Sharrah was a really good teacher. She simplified the concepts and didn't overwhelm us with too much information at once. We were made to feel at ease and free to ask our questions. Discussing them together helped us follow the material and digest the information. She was a wealth of knowledge and dignified our learning, never speaking down to us or making us feel like we were behind. The class was well paced. I feel confident calculating F280 heating/cooling loads myself after completing this course.

I thought Andrew and Sharrah were great with the questions, responding to chat and verbal questions. I thought going slowly through the example was helpful. I think 5 hours sessions were long, especially at the end of a workday. Maybe spread it out more and then give more opportunity for homework in between? Less time spent with the lecture, could have given more time for the examples, where I thought the most value was. Alternatively incorporate the building science into the example to break it up?

Great pre-course communication and excellent execution. I prefer to learn in a classroom but this was by far the best online course I have participated in. I plan to fully endorse TECA and encourage all contractors/techs operating in BC that i do product/technical training with to take this course.

Review for the Air to Air Heat Pump Design (Residential) course

Date: April 25, 2025

I liked how we learned how important it is to size the equipment properly. How important it is todo a heat loss heat gain, and how to do a balance point and be able to prove the exact equipment to install. Eddie went above and beyond not only about design but installation. I liked how he went in depth about condensate drains and how they need to be installed properly and how they can cause water damage if they are not.
