Section 9.36 - New Requirements

The Province’s adoption of the “2012 National Model Building Code” Section 9.36 Energy Efficiency became effective on December 19, 2014. The resulting new requirements now included in Part 9 of the BC Building Code represent some of the most sweeping changes in recent code updates, and will affect every aspect of the residential construction industry. There are significant changes in relation to HVAC installations; including equipment location, and minimum efficiency levels, ductwork and piping insulation, and location requirements. As well there are significant changes to the sealing and insulating requirements that every HVAC installer should be aware of. Don’t miss this opportunity to get informed on the scope of the changes, and be up to speed with the new requirements.

Topic: New Amendments to the Ventilation Code (Section 9.32 residential)

David will talk to us about the changes to Section 9.32 of the BC Building Code on residential ventilation systems that are scheduled to come into effect this coming December. The changes reflect the need for balanced ventilation rather than exhaust-only as is the minimum in the current Code. The new Part 9 energy efficiency provisions for houses also coming into effect this coming December will put considerable emphasis on air-tight construction and ventilation will no longer be able to rely on uncontrolled make-up air coming in through the exterior walls.

Sized venting? Tapered transitions? Matching thermostat? Sealed joints?

Can we differentiate from the good, the bad and the ugly? Join us February 20th and see what FortisBC's study found.

Last fall, FortisBC initiated a study to review the installations (and ultimately performance) of a random sample of furnaces put in during the 2012 Furnace Replacement Pilot Program. Ecolighten was commissioned by FortisBC to conduct this research and they will share their findings based on 50 furnace installs across the province. Using TECA's Quality First written guidelines, the furnace installations were assessed and reviewed on 14 points. Don't miss this interactive session to learn, see and maybe even be surprised.

Share how you "install" and offer your point of view on measures TECA can take to continue to improve the quality of installs within industry in the coming years.
